Activating Ideas
comissioned by Central Saint Martins PhD

Activating Ideas is a rolling programme of events, displays, performances, talks and workshops showcasing the diversity of doctoral research at CSM.

Celebrating the work of completing doctoral students, the programme invites students, staff and the public to engage with both theory and practice-based research across arts, performance, media, design, fashion, curating, and spatial practices.

With over 80 doctoral researchers at CSM, post-graduate research plays an important part in the research culture of the College and UAL at large. Activating Ideas aims to make this research visible in ways that foster exchange and dialogue across diverse communities and practices.

The programme is organised by PhD Programme Coordinators, Dr Caterina Albano and Dr Marketa Uhlirova, in collaboration with CSM Creative Producer Liam Green, and developed together with participating doctoral researchers.

The graphic identity concept:

centred on the use of the ‘i’ as it is a repetitive letter in the name of the project. It is use as teh representation of a connection between the two words but also as a connection between different practices coming together during a resarch creative process.

the play with the kerning of the letters represents the research process, that usually starts quite broad and slowly narrows down the deeper we get in a subject.
